In order to investigate the effects of irrigation on the regional climate, Christina develops parameterizations for the coupled regional atmosphere-biosphere model system REMO-iMOVE. The different irrigation methods, applied in modern agriculture, require different treatment of surface as well as soil processes in the model. Christina focuses on surface and sprinkler irrigation as well as on flooding of paddy rice. With high-resolution simulations on convection-permitting scales the irrigation parameterizations will be tested for Northern Italy and the impact of irrigation on the regional climate processes will be analyzed. Furthermore, challenges and cooperation opportunities were discussed.

The EGU 2020 provided with its online format an easily accessible platform for exchange with scientists at different career levels from all over the world.
