Project launch: iSPECS starts research on science-policy interactions in urban climate governance

In February 2020, the project iSPECS started as part of HICSS. In the following months, iSPECS will investigate institutional and socio-cultural success factors for an effective provision and application of climate services in urban contexts. These factors will be identified in a comparative study of the cities of Hamburg (Germany) and São Paulo (Brazil).

For the case study of Hamburg, iSPECS is supported by Laura Schmidt. Linked to her background in human geography, Laura’s research interests include transdisciplinary sustainability research and the related transformation processes in science. The realization of the case study in São Paulo currently has to be postponed, because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

iSPECS is supervised by Jörg Cortekar, science officer at the GERICS Department of Networking and Marketing, as well as Anita Engels, Professor of Sociology and Co-Chair of the cluster of excellence CLICCS (Climate, Climatic Change, and Society) at the University of Hamburg. The Brazilian case study is additionally supported by Prof. Dr. Gabriela Marques Di Giulio and Prof. Dr. Tercio Ambrizzi from the University of São Paulo (USP).
